The first sauna usage dates back to Middle Asia. It reaches Scandinavian countries through Russia and completed its evolution in Finland. Sauna is a hot air bath which is wide enough to allow people to sit or lie down. The temperature usually is kept between 30 and 90 degrees Celsius. The heat reaches 100 degrees around the ceiling. A well designed sauna contains between 5 to 10 percent humidity, which allows the person inside to use the heat optimally. The heat of the stove stones usually reaches 200 degrees Celsius. The chosen sauna perfumes are mixed with water and poured over stove stones, in order to control the humidity percentage. This is the main principle of a Finnish sauna. The feature that makes the traditional saunas special is the quality of the sauna steam.

Saunas do not have a special healing method or goal. However, it is often accepted it has beneficial effects to treat stress by protecting our bodies and preparing them to be in harmony with the nature. Sauna allows the human body
to sweat in an optimal and passive way, which has many health benefits. While active sweating causes fatigue, the passive sweating in saunas removes fatigue. Toxic metabolism wastes are discharged through sweat pores, which
lead to relaxation. There is a direct correlation within the body temperature changes and hearth pulse. Depending
on the sitting position, in sauna the heart pulse increases around 50 to 60 percent and might increase to 100-150 pulses per minute. Despite this rise in heart pulse, there is a very little increase in the blood pressure. Therefore
there is a very little burden on the cardiovascular system.  Even people without much condition can adapt to sauna easily. The sportsmen with a good condition who stay in a 90 degrees sauna around 15 minutes have a pulse that is equal to a 3 kilometer jogging. Therefore it is believed that regular usage of a sauna will bring positive health effects.

The general principle of sauna is based upon the concentrated temperature increases and decreases on human body.

- The temperature increases on the body leads to a rise of antibodies. Antibodies are produced by the immune system to fight against illnesses.
- The temperature increase also widens the blood vessels, leading to an increase in blood flow. Our organism will try to balance the body temperature by cooling down the skin, leading to a sweat reaction.
- Sauna makes one's body younger and fresher. Because of the opening of sweat pores, the dead cells on the upper layer of the skin are discharged.
- The dense sweating adjusts the balance of water and toxins in human body. Especially entering sauna after sporting will help to discharge the lactic acid, which causes muscle pain.
- Regular sauna baths will relax the muscle and help against rheumatism and arthritis.
- The rate of metabolism will increase. One sauna séance will burn 300 calories. This is equal to running 3-4 kilometers.
- Sauna causes comfortable sweating (wet sweating). With this wet sweating, there won't be a salt loss, and harmful toxins such as lead, nickel, mercury will be discharged.
- Systematical sauna baths will help the respiratory system to work better.
- Sauna will strengthen the body and increase the total blood proteins. This will help more oxygen to reach the tissues.
 - Sauna bath will affect the cardio vascular system in a positive way; it will simulate a stress free exercise to the cardio vascular system
